Topic: Making Jesus the Lord of your life (Part 1)
By: Benneth Ebilabo |
Before we get started, let us pray. Almighty Father, I commit as many who are reading this publication today into your hands. I pray that you will enlighten their eyes of understanding to know Jesus the more and to be able to allow Jesus govern, control and guide their lives, now and forever. Amen.
Must people wish to be have Jesus as their Saviour, but not as their Lord. They want Him to save them from their sin, sickness, satan and hell, but they don’t want Him to be their day-to-day ruler and master on earth. But remember this, to get the best from God, to have all the promises of God written in the bible concerning you come to pass; you must MAKE JESUS CHRIST YOUR LORD AND SAVIOUR. In making Him your Lord, you are electing or permitting Him to have the final say in anything that concerns you. In making Him your Lord, you are accepting Him to control, guide and lead you.
Let’s read a few scriptures:
“The Lord is my shepherd (guide, ruler, master, controller, etc) I shall not want.” Psalm 23 vs 1.
Must people can recite this passage of scripture offhand, but yet they have not stopped lacking in their lives. Do you know why? They have not given the Lord (Jesus) permission to be their Shepherd or Guide. King David said that because he had given the Lord the opportunity to be his shepherd; that is why he can say “I shall not want”, and it worked for him.
You can recite Psalm 23 from now till tomorrow and never get the blessings it contains if you have not made the Lord Jesus (the good shepherd) your Shepherd and Lord.
After the transfiguration of Jesus Christ, the bible said a voice spoke from the cloud that overshadowed the disciples and Jesus, and said, “This is my beloved Son: hear him” (Luke 9:35). Beloved until you come to the point where you hear the Word of God and live by it, you are not led by Jesus, because the bible said Jesus is the Word of God (John 1 vs 1). The voice, which is the voice of God Almighty, said “hear him”, that doesn’t mean to hear him preach or speak, but to live by whatever he tells you. “Hear him” in this verse of scripture can also be translated as ‘Obey him’, ‘Allow him rule/govern you’, ‘Give more preference to what he says, than what any other person will say’. The bible said, “hear him”, so start hearing from today.
Let’s read another scripture. Romans 8 vs 14,
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God”.
Beloved, there is a great difference between being a ‘Child’ of God and being a ‘Son’ of God. A child of God is like a new born baby (as Peter will say - 1st Peter 2:2), and does not know much about God; and so his/her walk with God is limited. But a ‘Son’ of God is a man or a woman that know God in His totally, through much study and meditation on the bible, and prayers. Sons of God know their rights and privileges in God’s kingdom, but ‘children’ don’t know or know only a little.
The bible said “as many as are led”, which means everyone can decide to be led by the Lord, and become Sons of God. So, to grow from your childish stage in God’s kingdom to become sons and priests, you must allow God to direct or lead you. It is when you constantly allow divine guidance take precedence over every other form of guidance that you start enjoying all of the benefits in the kingdom of God.
In verse 19 of Romans 8, the bible said, “For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God”. So, as a son, you are expected to manifest forth. But what are you to manifest forth? You are to manifest the power of God, the righteousness of God, the compassion of God, the gentleness of God, etc. You are to show the world what God is like, because you carry his nature.
Sons of God cannot and will never be in bondage, as long as they remain sons. The bible said the children of Israel came to the red sea, and seeing Pharaoh’s fierce army approaching, they cried and murmured. But their leader Moses, who was a son of God, knew what to do. He called on God and God gave him instructions. He followed the instructions and the red sea became a dry ground where the children of Israel walked through. (Exodus 14). Sons of God don’t murmur, they act on God’s instructions; and because they act on God’s instructions, they always get the right results.
The Amalekites had just invaded Ziklag where David’s wives and the wives and children of his men (or his army) lived. David and his men where not in town, and the Amalekites invaded the land, took their wives and children captive, and burnt the city with fire. When David and his men returned, Ziklag was completely destroyed and burnt down. The bible said David and his men wept until they had no more power to weep again. Upon that the people were planning to stone David to death, as if he caused everything.
Then David prayed to God, and God said to him, “... Pursue; for thou shall surely overtake them, and without fall recover all”. So David and his men pursued after the Amalekites, totally defeated them, recovered their wives and children, and carried all the Amalekites’ flocks and came back to Ziklag. Hallelujah! (Read I Samuel 30)
Imagine what would have happened if God had said to David do not go, and he went. Or as God said to him, “Pursue”; he refused to pursue. David wouldn’t have recovered what the Amalekites took from him, and he would have, maybe, lost his life. Beloved, it is a blessed thing to obey the Lord. It is a blessed thing to become a son in God’s kingdom and be led by the Spirit of God. It is a blessed thing to Make Jesus Your Lord!
Sons of God, those who are led by the Spirit of God, are never in bondage; rather they help people out of bondage. Peter and John (sons of God, people who have subscribed to the Lord’s leading), were going to the temple to pray one morning. A lame beggar asked them for arms (money, gifts, etc), but Peter said unto him, “Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk”, and immediately the man started walking. Glory to God! (Story is in Acts 3 :1-8)
Sons of God manifest the power of God. They do what the Lord has commanded them to do. There is nothing impossible to sons of God, because they know what power they possess. Jesus said “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Sons of God, male or female, old or young, married or unmarried, know what power the Lord Jesus has given to them, so they fear nothing in this world.
It is sad to say, but must people pray with the Words “My Lord and My Saviour Jesus Christ”, but let Jesus Christ (the word of God) tell them to stop fornicating, lying, stealing, etc, they’ll say that’s too hard for me. These kind of people can’t get the best from God, because Jesus has not become their Lord, their Governor and their Guardian. They only need Jesus to be their Healer, their Prosperer, their Deliverer, etc, but they don’t need Him to direct their steps day after day. Well, sorry to say this, if you don’t make Jesus your LORD, and be come led by Him, you cannot also have Him as your SAVIOUR.
Beloved, it is high time we let go of our ego and pride and allow the Lord to direct us. It is time to allow Jesus to be our LORD, GOVERNOR, and GUARDIAN.
Listen to this, there is no other way to make it in life, because Jesus is the ‘ONLY WAY’. And when the ‘ONLY WAY’ is your LORD, guess what? You’ll never lack any good thing, and you’ll never pass through rough and unhealthy situations. But when the ‘ONLY WAY’ is not your LORD, your will pass through the crooked paths of life, and live in regret all your life.
Remember, the Lord God said in Isaiah 45 vs 2, “I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight.” It is when you make Jesus your Lord, and walk in his way, and order your steps by his direction that CROOKED PLACES become STRAIGHT. That is the only time you’ll not dash your feet against a stone. But if you reject his LORDSHIP in your life, you’ll dash your feet against many stones as you go through life.
If you’ll like to make Jesus your Lord today, pray this prayer after me.
“Lord Jesus, I call you Lord not because I want to pray, but because I want you to really be my LORD and Governor. I subscribe to your leadership today, I let go of my ego and pride and allow you to make decisions for my life. I accept you into my heart and life, to guide me as I pass through life; because I cannot pass through life all alone. Accept me as your Son today, and lead me all the way. Forgive me my sins also, and cleanse me with your precious blood. Thank you for saving my soul. Thank you for leading me from now onwards, in Jesus name I pray. Amen”.
If you prayed that prayer sincerely you have now subscribed to the leading of the Lord. And you have also made Jesus your Lord. So, keep obeying whatever he tells you, no matter how inconvenient it may be. Keep Reading and Studying the Bible because that is the only way you can discover what he wants you to do. God bless you.
